Who is ELCA?
THE EGYPTIAN LACTATION CONSULTANT ASSOCIATION (ELCA) was announced in July 2004 as an official body embracing the vision and work of the Egyptian health workers in the field of maternal and child health who are:
International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs ).
Adequate Nutrition is the basic need for 100% of infants.
Exclusive breastfeeding from birth could save about 1.5 million lives worldwide each year.
The Global Strategy for Infant and Young Child Feeding, states that infants should be exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months of life and continue with breastfeeding with complementary foods until 2 years or beyond.
Supporting mothers to exclusively breastfeed their babies especially when sick or with a problem requires skilled personnel in the field of lactation management.
